Equity Collective Workgroups

The success of the Philadelphia STEM Equity Collective is dependent on active participation, involvement, and convening of our community partners.

The purpose of the workgroups is to identify, develop and implement strategies to achieve our short and long-term outcomes. We aim to include the public and experts to identify best practices and address social inequities.  Though the workgroups will establish their own work plans, there are some responsibilities that are shared among all groups. The backbone staff will assist the workgroups.

If you are interested in being a member of the Philadelphia STEM Equity Collective, we would request that you join one of our workgroups.                    As an engaged volunteers and Workgroup member you should expect to:

  • Help to identify collaborators and resources to support and/or execute strategies

  • Serve as a liaison with and advocate for the community

  • Attend monthly meetings and engage in active discussion and planning, work with Backbone on projects and actions between meetings

  •  Lend subject matter expertise

  • Assist in identifying scope, prioritizing recommendations, defining solutions and supporting growth and sustainability of Collective

  •  Coordinate activities among working group member agencies and others in the community

  • Help to define measurement and evaluation for progress and outcomes

  • Assist in the recruitment of community and thought leaders

  • Work within the governance framework and guiding principles of the Philadelphia STEM Equity Collective

  • Complete background checks through third-party vendor (backbone will support cost and process) to enable youth participation
